There is an old Irish legend called the Children of Lir that dates back centuries ago. According to the legend Lir was a powerful king of the magical Tuatha De Dannann, one of the earliest tribes to inhabit Ireland. When his beloved Queen passed away, Lir married her sister Aoife so that his children would have a loving mother. However, Aoife was so intensely jealous of Lir's love for his four children that she turned the four children into white swans with her powerful sorcery, the like of which had not been in Ireland before or since. The legend of the children of Lir is one of magic, love, passion and beauty - just like Belleek China. The Belleek Swan Votive brings the legend of Lir into your home with it's enchanting and captivating aura. The delicate features have been painted on by hand while the famous Belleek basket weave and shamrock adorn the swan's body elegantly. Crafted and painted entirely by hand using techniques of old in the Belleek Pottery, Ireland. |
