Spode
Josiah Spode perfected the process of blue underglaze printing onto earthenware in 1784, a development that spurred the dramatic rise of the British tableware. He later went on to discover the recipe for making Fine Bone China, which gave birth to Spode.
Today Spode's craftsmen still use the same techniques as their 18th Century counterparts, moulding and engraving each piece by hand. In fact, many of today's designs are made from moulds preserved in the Spode archives. At Boyds of Ireland we offer a wide range of Spode, from their popular Blue Italian and Blue Room collections through to New England Tableware and the ever-popular Woodland pattern. If you would like to enquire about a piece of Spode not currently on the store, please get in touch.
